Look Mom, ruffling the old fashioned way!

This was the month of ruffes ... and more ruffles ... and more ruffles!

Gathering is a skill that's a little challenging  because you have to take your time and be gentle pulling your basting threads - definitely not the time to show off your muscles!  But after a couple of snapped threads the girls were able to reel in their strength and made some beautiful ruffles that were added to the bottoms of their skirts.

The original pattern was for a knee length skirt, and since many of the girls wanted their skirts to be a little shorter they had a chance to learn how to adjust a pattern to shorten the length of the skirt.

They also learned how to make a casing at the top of the skirt to insert elastic for the waistband.
Note to their principals:  all of the skirts are at least fingertip length!
